You all must have heard this word “procrastination”, where we tend to delay our work to tomorrow, when we can do it today. It’s a habit which is inbuilt in us and until and unless we try hard, we can’t get rid of it. It’s a human psychology to finish things at the last hour. This is the only reason that we lead a disorganized life. Our work gets piled up and when the time comes for submission, we are totally freaked out.
Procrastinators seldom do absolutely nothing; they do marginally useful things, like gardening or sharpening pencils or making a diagram of how they will reorganize their files when they get around to it. Why does the procrastinator do these things? Because they are a way of not doing something more important.
How to avoid procrastination?
- Make a checklist of tasks that needs to be done. Once you have it on your paper, you will exactly know what your targets are and what needs to be done. If there is a lot work, prioritize them. Finish the most important ones first and then start with the less priority tasks.
- Start with the work that you hate the most. We usually think that this particular task is very hard and we need to set the right mood for it. For no specific reason, we keep on delaying it. All you need to do is, take it as a challenge and just start working on it.
- Another good idea is to try and finish the smaller tasks first. This way you will get rid of the bigger chunk of your work.
- The best way to avoid procrastination is to keep moving. Don’t stop. Make an activity and keep trying, you will definitely find a way out.
- Learn to keep your focus while working. If you are working online, stop surfing around wasting your time on sites such as orkut, facebook, checking emails, etc. I have seen many people sitting for hours and wasting their time by watching videos or other people’s profile and photos on Facebook. You should stop all distractions coming your way.
- When you are working, try and be productive. There is a huge difference between staying active or being productive. Activity can be sitting on a laptop for hours but not finishing what you want. Productivity is more important and that’s where you achieve your goal.
- Last but not the least, learning to overcome procrastination is important for pursuing a better life. Gather up your motivation and just say that you have to finish this task today, no matter what happens. Once you do that, there is no way that you can’t get what you want.
Cheers:)
